IARC Privacy Policy

Last updated December 4, 2025

At the International Age Rating Coalition (“IARC,” “we” or “us”), a global system for assigning age and content ratings for digital video games and apps developed by a coalition of ratings authorities, we help parents and consumers make informed choices by providing trusted, region-specific information on age-appropriateness. In the same spirit, we are providing this Privacy Policy to explain how we treat your personal information when you interact with us through our website, www.globalratings.com (the “Website”). This Privacy Policy can also help you manage your personal information and make informed privacy choices.

1. What information does this Privacy Policy cover?

This Privacy Policy covers information, including personal information, collected through the Website. It does not apply to information collected offline or to any other websites or online services maintained by IARC or by any of the IARC participating ratings authorities. It does not apply to any third party site we may link to from this Website, including the participating ratings authorities’ websites or the participating digital storefronts’ websites. We encourage you to review all third parties’ privacy statements carefully, including details on the information they may collect about you, before interacting with them.

2. How does IARC define personal information?

We define personal information as information that is linked or reasonably linkable to an identified or identifiable individual, household, or device. This includes information we can use to identify or contact you (such as your name, address, telephone number, and email address), account numbers (such as your credit card number), and unique technical information (such as your IP address). It does not include aggregated information or information that has been de-identified using state-of-the-art techniques.

3. How does IARC handle children’s personal information?

This Website is intended for adults and businesses (e.g., participating ratings authorities, digital storefronts, ratings customers, publishers, and developers), not children. IARC complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), a U.S. law designed to protect the privacy of users under the age of 13, regardless of where you live. If you believe we’ve unintentionally collected personal information from a child under the age of 13, please contact us. If confirmed, we will delete the information. We extend similar protections for personal information from teens above the age of 13 and under the age of 18.

4. What information does IARC collect and how do we use personal information?

We collect information, including personal information, for our operational and business purposes including providing information about IARC’s age and content ratings, sending you administrative communications either about your account with us or about features of our Website, including any material changes to this Privacy Policy, fulfilling your request to rate a game or app, or responding to inquiries. If you are a video game or app publisher or developer and you submit a video game or app to be rated by IARC, we use the personal and business information you provide us to rate the video game or app you submit to us and to maintain a historical record of the rating. If you prefer not to disclose the information, you will still be able to use the Website; however, you will not be able to submit a game or app for rating.

Below is a summary of what information we collect and how we use it:

Information You Provide Directly: We collect the information you choose to share with us, such as:

  • Your Email Address: If you email us at info@globalratings.com, we will use your email address and, when necessary, other information you provide, to respond to your inquiry. We will also require you to acknowledge that you’ve read this Privacy Policy before you can submit this information.

  • Ratings Submission Inquiries and Information: If you are a video game or app publisher or developer and would like to submit a video game or app to be rated by IARC, you will need to provide us with information, which may include personal information, including the name of your company, an email address, and information about the game or app you would like to submit to IARC for a rating. You may send us this information by email to info@globalratings.com or the Website contact form, which requests a first and last name, contact email address, company name, information about the game or app rated or to be rated, and a description of the issue.

Information Collected Automatically: We collect information automatically using cookies, pixels, and other tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience and analyze how you use our Websites so we can make them more useful, and serve you content through third-party platforms.

  • Cookies: Cookies are text files with small pieces of data placed on your web browser that are used to identify your computer when you interact with a website and remember your visit. Generally, the cookies used on our Website falls into three categories: (i) necessary cookies, which are used for operational and technical functions, including remembering choices you make on a website, such as language, to provide a more personalized experience; (ii) analytics cookies, which track user behavior on a site to improve its content and user experience, and (iii) targeting/advertising cookies, which are used to deliver advertising and content that is relevant to your interests. Some of these categories overlap. See our IARC Cookie Policy for details.

You can configure your browser to warn you before cookies are set or disable cookies entirely. We use Cookiebot, a third-party consent management platform, to ensure compliance with privacy laws and rules by managing user consent for the use of cookies and similar tracking technologies. Cookiebot automatically scans our website and categorizes cookies into groups such as necessary, analytics, targeting/advertising, and preferences, allowing users to make informed choices about which types of cookies they wish to allow or decline. Cookiebot collects and stores users’ consent preferences to provide transparency and control over our use of these tracking technologies. User consent preferences managed through Cookiebot are stored for a period of 12 months, after which users will be prompted to renew their consent. For more info on how to manage cookies or opt out, see How can I manage my personal information and make privacy choices (Section 8)? and the IARC Cookie Policy.

5. Does IARC sell or share your personal information?

IARC does not sell your personal information. We may share your personal information with service providers for our operational needs based on the type, purpose, and use of such information as set forth in our IARC Cookie Policy. We do not share your information with any other third parties unless otherwise specified.

We may disclose personal information to comply with laws, respond to lawful requests or legal processes, meet regulatory, law enforcement, or national security requests or requirements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of IARC, its users, or the public.

6. How does IARC safeguard your personal information?

We use robust security measures to protect user information from loss, misuse, and alteration. We use industry-standard practices such as encrypted communications, physically secured rooms, firewalls, and password protection systems to safeguard the confidentiality of your personal information. Despite our best efforts, no security measure is ever perfect or impenetrable. If we learn that your unencrypted personal information has been compromised by a data breach, we will notify you consistent with applicable laws.

7. How long does IARC retain personal information?

We generally retain your personal information only for as long as we need it to deliver the content or service you’ve requested.

For comments or complaints about IARC’s age and content ratings, we keep your personal information only for as long as we need to address your inquiry or complaint; otherwise, we delete it after 12 months.

In some circumstances, we may need to retain personal information for a longer period to comply with legal obligations, including responding to regulatory inquiries, to resolve disputes, to enforce agreements, or for other purposes as permitted by applicable laws.

Note for Ratings Customers: We retain the information you provide with ratings submissions in a secure database. Because IARC ratings of games and apps do not expire, we maintain this information indefinitely and do not delete it. Ratings customers must provide an email address to receive communications from IARC when requesting a rating. If deletion of a personally identifiable email address associated with a rating is requested, ratings customers must enter a new email address via the participating IARC storefront where their product was rated. After this process is complete, IARC automatically deletes the previous email address from its database. There is no other personal data associated with the encrypted emails in our database.

8. How can I manage my personal information and make privacy choices?

You can manage the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in several ways. In general, however, you may:

Review, update, or request that we delete any personal information about you. You can email us at info@globalratings.com to review, update, or request that we delete any personal information about you and we will take reasonable steps to honor your request. If we are maintaining your personal information pursuant to a contractual or other legal obligation, we may not honor your request, as permitted by applicable law.

Browser opt-outs: You can manage or delete cookies through your web browser settings (e.g., Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox). Because each browser works a bit differently, check your browser’s “Settings” or “Privacy” menu for instructions on how to view, block, or delete cookies. If you turn cookies off, some of the features of the Websites might not function properly. You can also use certain browser extensions to further manage how online ads are shown to you.
