The content is very mild in impact.

The G (General) classification is suitable fora general audience. Computer games classified G may contain violence, however the sense of threat or menace should be low, and justified by context. Some G-classified computer games may contain content that is not of interest to children.

The content is mild in impact.

Computer games classified PG (Parental Guidance) contain content that children may find confusing or upsetting. They may, for example, contain classifiable elements such as language and themes that are mild in impact. It is not recommended that persons under 15 play games classified PG without the guidance of a parent or guardian.

The content is moderate in impact.

Computer games classified M (Mature) contain content of a moderate impact and are recommended for people aged 15 years and over. However, there are no legal restrictions on access. Computer games containing in-games purchases linked to elements of chance, including paid loot boxes, have a minimum classification of M.

The content is strong in impact.

Computer games classified MA 15+ contain strong content and are legally restricted to people aged 15 years and over. Children under the age of 15 may not legally access MA 15+ computer games unless they are in the company of a parent or adult guardian. A person may be asked to show proof of their age before hiring or purchasing a computer game with this classification.

The content is high in impact.

R 18+ computer games are legally restricted to adults. Computer games containing simulated gambling have a minimum classification of R 18+. Computer games classified R 18+ may be offensive to some sections of the adult community. A person may be asked for proof of their age before accessing R 18+ computer games.

Game content suitable for ages 7 and above does not display references to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, violence, mutilation, cannibalism, or unrealistic blood elements, does not use coarse language, swearing, or adult humor, does not show nudity, pornography, gambling, or horror, and does not include online interaction features such as conversations.

Game content suitable for ages 13 and above does not display references to cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs; human mutilation or cannibalism (though blood elements may appear); adult humor with sexual connotations; nudity or pornography; gambling or intense horror, and may include limited non-hateful animated violence with unrealistic weapons and filtered online conversations.

Game content suitable for ages 15 and above must not include references to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, mutilation, cannibalism, nudity, pornography, gambling, or intense horror; may include limited animated violence without hatred, online interactions with language filters, blood elements, and non-sexual adult humor.

Game content suitable for ages 18 and over does not contain pornography, but may display references to cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs; animated violence, blood, mutilation, and cannibalism; adult humor with sexual connotations; human-like characters without showing genitals, breasts, or buttocks; gambling activities that do not involve real or digital currency; horror elements intended to provoke fear; and online conversation features.

The content of apps with this rating is considered suitable for all age groups. Some violence in a comical context (typically cartoonlike – Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry – forms of violence) is acceptable. A child should not be able to associate the character on the screen with real life characters, they should be distinctly fantasy. The app should not contain any sounds or pictures that are likely to scare young children. No bad language should be heard.

Any app that would normally be rated at 3 but contains some scenes or sounds that can possibly be frightening for children may be considered suitable in this category. There can only be very mild violence in a PEGI 7 app, like implied violence or non-detailed, non-realistic violence.

Games or apps that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy characters, or non-graphic violence towards human-looking characters or animals would fall in this age category, as well as nudity of a slightly more graphic nature and simulated gambling. Any bad language in this category must be mild and fall short of sexual expletives.

Once the depiction of violence or sexual activity reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life, this rating is applied. Stronger inappropriate language, encouraging the use of tobacco or drugs and depicting criminal activities can be content of apps that are rated 16.

The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of gross violence and/or includes elements of specific types of violence (motiveless killing, violence towards defenceless characters or sexual violence). It may also include graphic sexual content, discrimination or the glamorisation of illegal drugs use.

Apps do not always have predefined content that can be classified beforehand. Certain apps function as portals (e.g. to stream content), offering a broad, variable range of content from which consumers can choose. For these apps, we use the parental guidance icon, alerting parents that the app may provide access to content that is not appropriate for their child, although other, age-appropriate content may also be available, depending on the selection of the user.

Bei Spielen und Apps ab 0 Jahren handelt es sich generell um Inhalte ohne Beeinträchtigungspotential. Dabei können sich diese sowohl direkt an Kinder und Jugendliche, als auch an erwachsene Nutzer richten. Beispielsweise Dienstprogramme, Kataloge oder Tools im Allgemeinen fallen üblicherweise unter diese Kategorie, ebenso soziale Netzwerke, in denen nutzergenerierte Inhalte überprüft, gefiltert oder moderiert werden.

Produkte in dieser Alterskategorie können Elemente enthalten, die für Vorschulkinder möglicherweise verstörend wirken können. Vereinzelte unheimliche Momente, eine niedrige Häufung von Schimpfworten oder leichte erotische Anspielungen sind dabei denkbar. Sind Gewaltdarstellungen vorhanden, so bleibt deren Gestaltung stets abstrakt und vermittelt sich nicht als bestimmend für das Produkt. Spiele in dieser Alterskategorie sind durchaus als familienfreundlich zu bezeichnen, fallen aber bereits spannender und wettkampfbetonter aus.

Produkte dieser Kategorie können durch ängstigende Inhalte, kurze Schockmomente, selten vorkommende explizite Sprache, sexuelle Inhalte oder vereinzelte Gewaltdarstellungen beeinträchtigend für jüngere Kinder sein. Spiele in diesem Bereich können bereits deutlich kampfbetonter oder hektischer ausfallen, bieten durch ihren fiktiven Kontext jedoch ausreichend Distanzierungsmöglichkeiten. Bitte achten Sie darauf, dass in Sozialen Netzwerken oder auf Plattformen, die von Nutzern hinzugefügten Inhalte auch trotz möglicher Maßnahmen der Anbieter die Jugendschutzrelevanz erhöhen können.

Realistisch anmutende Gewaltdarstellungen, eine Anhäufung von Schock- und Horrorelementen, explizite Sprache oder Produkte mit erotischem oder sexuellem Fokus fallen unter diese Kategorie. Zu den Spielegenres zählen Action Adventures, militärische Strategiespiele und Shooter.

Deutliche und realistische Gewaltdarstellungen sind bei diesen Spielen und Apps der häufigste Grund für eine fehlende Jugendfreigabe, jedoch können auch andere Aspekte wie beispielsweise die unreflektierte Darstellung von Drogenkonsum zu dieser Einstufung führen. Spiele thematisieren nahezu ausschließlich gewalthaltige Konzepte, die bei vielen Aufgaben im Vordergrund stehen.
